Schneider Electric completes investment in Operation Technology, Inc. (“ETAP”) to spearhead smart and green electrification

ETAP is an energy management and engineering solutions company specializing in the modeling, simulation, design, planning, monitoring, control, operator training, optimization and automation of energy systems. ETAP’s integrated digital twin platform offers the best comprehensive suite of business solutions. As the only high-impact software in its class, ETAP has been a market and technology leader for over 35 years and offers the most comprehensive and widespread business solutions to more than 10,000 companies in the fields of generation, transmission, distribution, industry, transport and data centers towards low-voltage networks.

The ETAP investment completes Schneider’s existing software portfolio for power systems. Its technology will be integrated into Schneider’s unique cloud-based platform for the design and operation of business-critical power systems using vendor-independent software-controlled modeling, design, predictive real-time simulation and operating solutions. This will help enable end-to-end digitization of the life cycle and provide greater efficiency, sustainability and resilience to a wider audience and customer base.

Global customers and partners in critical process and hybrid industries, power plants and networks, data centers, railways and airports will benefit from improved modeling, design and predictive maintenance capabilities that support better integration of renewable energy, microgrids, fuel cells and battery storage technologies.

A more efficient, low-carbon future starts with smart design

The world of electricity will change fundamentally by 2040: the share of electricity in everything we do will double and reach at least 40 percent of final energy consumption; and six times more electricity is generated from the sun and wind (source: IEA). Electrical distribution systems have to be digitized in order to support the energy transition. The combined solution will help improve the performance of power systems from modeling to design to operation for improved grid asset performance and savings of up to 20 percent on total capital expenditures (CapEx).

Drive end-to-end digitization of the life cycle in its end markets

By digitally optimizing complex business-critical systems, the joint offering from Schneider Electric and ETAP will:

  • Maximize the production process of power supply systems through standardized, manufacturer-independent and application-specific design templates, digital twin-capable data models and product libraries
  • Protect operating personnel and equipment from arcing, overvoltage and overheating
  • Improve system availability, anticipate failures and protect critical loads with preventive and predictive maintenance
  • Facilitating the addition of renewable energies, microgrids, fuel cells and battery storage technologies

The integration of Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure ™ Power Design platform and ETAP’s electrical software design solutions will extend their reach through multi-vendor operating platforms to millions of connected assets in energy-intensive and mission-critical energy system applications.

Following the Group’s recent strategic investment in IGE + XAO and ALPI, this further enhances Schneider Electric’s unique digital twin and software capabilities in the areas of energy, grid and business-critical areas and promotes sustainability, efficiency and resilience across the entire life cycle from CapEx to OpEx .

ETAP will continue to operate as an agnostic, independent software vendor while its solutions strengthen Schneider Electric’s position as a key player in electrical design, operations and maintenance.

Jean-Pascal Tricoire, Chairman Schneider Electricsaid: “We look forward to welcoming the ETAP team on board. We share a passion for digitizing electrical engineering and streamlining every phase of the electrical installation lifecycle, from planning and construction to operation and maintenance. Both of our companies are preparing for a smart and green world that is becoming increasingly digital and electric. By joining forces with ETAP, we are entering a new chapter in advanced electrical distribution, with more digitization on a global level and new tools to empower our customers. and partners to make informed decisions and achieve new levels of efficiency and sustainability. ”

DR. Farrokh Shokooh, Founder and CEO of ETAP, commented:

“We are very excited to be joining Schneider Electric, a trusted and respected global company. We are enthusiastic about the synergies that the technologies and know-how of ETAP and Schneider bring together to serve our customers. Now ETAP is even better positioned to provide an intelligent electric digital twin platform with integrated solutions that help our customers in various industries accelerate productivity and increase efficiency in the planning, automation, operation, optimization and management of their energy systems. “
