Santa Cruz County health care providers show support for trail – Santa Cruz Sentinel

A group of Santa Cruz County health care providers are gathering this weekend to snap a photo at Capitola Trestle to spread the word that they support the walking trail proposal endorsed by the Santa Cruz County Greenway. More than 200 doctors, nurses, acupuncturists and other health professionals signed a letter distributed by Greenway saying they now support opening the unused rail corridor for a “safe, healthy and equitable path.” In the letter, Dr. Doug Hetzler, a longtime ENT doctor with the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, quoted as saying, “The greenway is the best opportunity for the Santa Cruz County community to activate the idle rail corridor for all ages to walk, run, ride bikes, commute, use wheelchairs and enjoy nature. The health benefits of regular exercise are well documented. Given the obesity crisis in our youth, we must all take steps to promote active lifestyles at a young age. It is time to give priority to the safety, health and wellbeing of the community. ”(Schmuel Thaler – Santa Cruz Sentinel)
