Longtime physician Neil Barg chosen as Yakima Health District’s health officer | Local

The longtime doctor Dr. Neil Barg becomes the new health officer for the Yakima Health District.

The Yakima Health District Health Committee selected Barg during its regular business meeting this morning.

Barg became Dr. Preferred Sara Cate, a family doctor with Community Health of Central Washington; and Yakima neurosurgeon Dr. Dave Atteberry, also a member of the health committee.

Atteberry decided not to vote on the selection.

Barg specializes in infectious diseases, internal medicine and lung diseases. He is the director of hospital epidemiology at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital in Yakima.

Barg got four of the six votes while Atteberry got two.

The board members LaDon Linde, Ron Anderson, Naila Duval and Dr. Sean Cleary voted for Barg.

Patricia Byers and Amanda McKinney voted for Atteberry.
