SGHS supplies seafarers with vaccines

The Southeast Georgia Health System provided the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 single-dose vaccine to seafarers on MV Miranda, a cargo ship that recently docked in the port of Brunswick. Seven sailors from Ukraine and the Philippines lined up to protect themselves and others from the potentially deadly virus.

The health system offered vaccinations to the crew of two ships last week, with five more ships planned for this week. The health system continues to provide the free Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to anyone 12 years and older at its vaccine clinics in Brunswick and St. Marys. To make an appointment, visit sghs.org/covid19-vaccine.

Heartland Hospice is looking for volunteers who could contribute through visits, phone calls, writing cards, or running errands.

Prerequisites for volunteer work are a caring heart and the will to make a difference. There is an initial interview, background check, fingerprinting, initial and ongoing annual training. The organization assumes these costs.

Each volunteer determines what schedule he or she wants to share their time. The organization is always looking for people who enjoy sewing and making blankets, pillows and handicrafts. Those interested can call Kelly Johnson, Volunteer Coordinator, at 912-261-8760.
