Shifting to a Circular Economy Takes Extended Producer Responsibility

Little can be done on the consumer side to convert the world to a more circular economy, says one LA times editorial.

Ellen MacArthur says the whole system needs to change to affect consumer behavior. Everything has to be redesigned, including the packaging.

Expanded producer responsibility is critical to a more circular system with the addition of “right to repair” laws. “Sin” laws, where consumers pay more for plastic packaging and other products, are also an option.
