Venice residents in environmental protest against first post-Covid cruise ship.

In March, Venice announced a ban on large ships, including cruise lines and shipping containers, after residents raised concerns about pollution and underwater erosion of the city’s foundations.

The ban will only come into force when new terminals are built to enable new routes around the city center.

Some residents took boats and took to the streets to protest when the first cruise ship after Covid left town.

Other residents welcomed the return of the tourist season and the jobs that came with it.
