El Salvador’s president says will send bill to make bitcoin legal tender

Mexico City, June 5 (Reuters) – El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele said Saturday that he would table a bill to Congress next week to make Bitcoin legal tender in the country.

“In the short term, this will create jobs and help bring financial inclusion to thousands outside the formal economy,” said Bukele in a video presented at the 2021 Bitcoin conference in Miami. (Reporting by Anthony Esposito Editing by Marguerita Choy)
